Meet the HW Team – Harriet Smith

Since HW Facilities’ earliest days, we have steadily grown a fantastic office and management team. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated team of professionals. A strong work ethic and deep respect link all members of the HW family, and we know that the company could not run without them.

This month, we asked Harriet Smith, our new Key Account Finance Support team member to introduce herself.

Welcome to the HW Team, Harriet! Please tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m Harriet Smith, a graduate accountant with experience in both industry and practice. Outside of work, I’m an avid explorer who loves making the most of the beautiful English countryside, beaches, and woodlands, often heading off on camping adventures.

I’m currently based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, where I work in Key Account Finance Support. I’ve been working at HW Facilities since April 1st, 2025. Prior to this, I took a break from employment to focus on full-time study for my professional ACCA qualifications. Before that, I gained valuable experience in an accountancy practice, managing a diverse range of business accounts—from start-ups to well-established companies.

What is your favourite part about your job and why?

Though I’ve only been with HW Facilities since April 1st, the best part of my job is analysing and breaking down data. I enjoy presenting my findings to the wider team and implementing positive changes that not only improve the business but, most importantly, save money!

What do you enjoy most about working with your colleagues?

The best part of working with my colleagues is how friendly, supportive, and welcoming they’ve been from day one. Starting a new job can be daunting, but they made the induction feel effortless!

How would you describe the working culture at HW?

The working culture at HW Facilities is collaborative, supportive, and inclusive. Everyone is encouraged to contribute their ideas, and there’s a real sense of teamwork across all departments. The management are approachable, and there’s a strong focus on business development, making it a great environment to learn and grow. It’s a place where innovation is valued, and everyone works together to achieve common goals.

How do you deal with particularly stressful days?

On stressful days, I try to stay grounded by taking short breaks, staying organised with to-do lists, and reminding myself to focus on what I can control. After work, getting outside for a walk or some fresh air really helps me reset.

What is the best piece of advice someone has given you (at work or elsewhere)?

The best piece of advice someone’s given me is to say yes to opportunities—even if they’re outside your comfort zone. You never grow by staying where it’s safe.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you travel to, and why?

If I could travel anywhere in the world, I’d go backpacking through Thailand. It’s such a beautiful country with so much to explore and experience.

What does your perfect weekend look like?

My perfect weekend would be a getaway with my fiancé, Chris, ideally with a bit of adventure thrown in! Think rock climbing, cliff jumping, or anything that gets the adrenaline going.

Zoe, Harriet’s team leader, added this: The role of Key Account Finance Support was a newly created position which was required following our success and growth of our key accounts. Harriet’s skills and experience will enable us to provide valuable data for internal purposes as well as to enhance the reporting to our clients. I am thrilled to have her on the team and excited to see the role develop.
