On Saturday 10th January, HW Facilities once again came together to support Dorothy House Hospice Care, marking our third year of supporting this vital local charity.
This time, our support came in the form of volunteering for the annual Dorothy House Christmas Tree Collection, a vital fundraising initiative that helps the hospice continue its incredible work in our local community.
We joined the Trowbridge collection group, where eight teams worked together to cover several surrounding villages, including Keevil, Steeple Ashton, West Ashton and Hilperton. One of our company vehicles was allocated to the route, and after an early start, a short briefing and a very welcome hot drink and bacon butty, the team set off.
The morning began cold and misty, with thick fog hanging over the Wiltshire countryside. However, as the sun slowly broke through, the conditions improved beautifully, turning what had been a challenging start into a thoroughly enjoyable day. Driving through frost-covered fields and picturesque villages, we stopped at each allocated address to collect Christmas trees that would go on to be responsibly recycled.
While the task itself was physical and required coordination, it was the shared sense of purpose and teamwork that made the day so rewarding. The Christmas Tree Collection is more than just a recycling effort. It is an important fundraiser for Dorothy House, helping to support families during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
Their services are vital to many families in the community, offering medical, practical and emotional support to people with life-limiting illnesses, as well as care and bereavement services for their loved ones. Their work brings comfort and dignity to individuals and families at some of the most difficult moments in life — support that would not be possible without community involvement and generous fundraising efforts like the Christmas Tree Collection.
Managing Director, Tom Marriott commented: “For the team at HW Facilities, this cause is deeply personal, colleagues within the business have directly experienced the care and support Dorothy House provides. Taking part in events like this is our way of giving something back and showing our continued commitment to a charity that means so much to us.
Supporting the Christmas Tree Collection also aligns closely with our wider environmental values. Ensuring that trees are recycled responsibly rather than sent to landfill is just one example of how community action and sustainability can go hand in hand. As a business, we are committed to reducing waste, improving efficiency and supporting initiatives that have a positive environmental impact.
This event is just one of many activities we support throughout the year for Dorothy House, and we are incredibly proud to continue standing alongside them. Days like this reflect the teamwork, community spirit and shared values that define us at HW Facilities.”
The initiative raised an impressive £153,000 in fundrasing, with 7,200 trees collected from across the community. You can find out more on Dorothy House’s LinkedIn article.
