| Mar 2026

As Global Recycling Day shines a spotlight on the importance of reducing waste and protecting natural resources, HW Facilities is proud to celebrate the continued success of our Gloves for Good recycling initiative. Since its launch in May 2024, the programme has grown into a nationwide effort across our client sites—diverting over 500 kilograms of used nitrile gloves from landfill and transforming them into new, environmentally beneficial products.

A Year of Growth and Impact

Gloves for Good started as a simple idea: turn essential but waste‑intensive PPE into something with a second life. Today, the initiative is active across a growing list of major household names and this list continues to expand as more clients adopt the programme.

Recycling Progress at a Glance

Total gloves recycled so far:

  • 2024: 182.53 kg
  • 2025 to early 2026: 318.8 kg

Total diverted from landfill since May 2024:
👉 Just over 500 kg — equivalent to around 50,000 pairs of nitrile gloves based on average glove weight.

This represents a substantial environmental benefit, especially considering that nitrile gloves typically end up as non-recyclable waste. Instead, the programme feeds these materials into a circular recycling process, reducing both waste and the demand for new raw materials.

From Gloves to Good: What They Become

Once collected, the gloves are processed into rubber pellets, which are then used to manufacture:

  • Outdoor benches
  • Playground flooring and equipment
  • Gym flooring
  • Durable outdoor furniture

These products will go on to benefit communities for years to come, offering a meaningful second life to essential PPE.

High Engagement Across Sites

Feedback from sites has been overwhelmingly positive. Cleaning teams and management have shown strong engagement, often thanks to individuals who have championed the initiative internally.

Clients have also noted the value the scheme brings, not only in terms of environmental responsibility but also in its contribution to social value reporting and sustainability commitments.

Next Steps: Even Bigger Ambitions for 2026

Gloves for Good is now a national initiative, and HW Facilities aims to grow it even further this year.

As interest increases, we’ll continue aligning the initiative with our broader sustainability goals—reducing PPE waste, supporting circular manufacturing, and helping our clients meet their environmental targets.
